Breathe in the fresh air of Ireland’s agricultural midlands as enjoy our self-guided motorcycle tour of Donegal in North West Ireland. Donegal was voted ‘Coolest Place on Earth 2017’ by the National Geotraveller.

Enjoy our award-winning Safety Orientation Course before setting off with a team member on the first half of your first days ride.  Donegal town itself offers some interesting tourist activities, such as the old woolen shops and mills, and the 15th Century Donegal Castle, home of the O’Donnell clan. Ride through Barnsmore Gap which was a smugglers haven in olden days. Look out for Golden Eagles as you ride through Glenveagh National Park and tour the castle. You’ll see Derryveagh Mountains ahead of you, and notice the quartzite summit of Mount Errigal standing at 751 meters amongst them. Riding through Ardara, then Glengash Mountain Pass into Teelin Village, an old harbour village. Following the road to ‘The Rusty Pub’, you’ll start ascending the highest sea cliffs in Ireland, at 2,000 foot high the views are spectacular! Returning to your accommodation through Killybegs, Ireland’s deep sea fishing port tired but deleriously happy!

Day 1 Celtic Rider to Donegal (140 Miles/ 223 Km)

  • Transfer to collect motorcycle/s, then enjoy our safety orientation course followed by the ride out along todays route for an hour or two.
  • Depart Celtic Rider Rental station heading north west across the agricultural midlands of Ireland, via the N3, stopping for lunch at the ‘Lakeside Manor Hotel’ beside lovely lake Ramor in Virginia.

  • Arrive at Donegal, a bustling country town full of colourful shops and quaint restaurants and pubs, enter accommodation and check into Irish guesthouse accommodation.

  • Donegal has a 15th century Castle, ancestral home of the 0’Donnell clan, with a nice church opposite the castle.

  • Magee’s of Donegal, famous for Irish wool clothing and Irish designed produce is well worth visiting.

  • Reels Pub is good for Irish traditional music, and I can personally recommend either ‘The Harbour’ or ‘The Olde Castle ‘restaurants, however the choice is yours and we recommend that you also explore for your own gems.

Day 2 Donegal to Donegal ((141 Miles/ 226 Km)

  • Continue the drive to the stunning Glenveagh National Park and Castle in North West Donegal, with the majestic Derryveagh mountains all around

  • Continue driving along the route through wild and remote Donegal to Ardara, than ride the Glengash mountain pass

  • The drive up is as memorable as the amazing view from the upper parking area, accessed by opening a farm gate on the way up

  • Often there are trawlers fishing, they look like tiny dots on the Atlantic ocean from the summit of the cliffs
